Novo projecto!!!
What is the value of this research?
Approximately 10,000 people die each year from cardiovascular disease (CVD) - including coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke and other circulatory diseases. CVD is the most common cause of death in Ireland, accounting for 36% of all deaths. The largest number of these deaths relate to CHD - mainly heart attack - at 5,000. Twenty-two percent of premature deaths (under age 65) are from CVD.
Previous experiments and model studies have shown that cardiac function is closely related to myocardial architecture. Exploiting the advances of new imaging techniques, such as DTI, will lead to a better understanding of these structural-functional relationships. Applying this framework to human hearts in the context of specic clinical applications would lead to improved and extended models of healthy and diseased hearts. This would have important translational clinical application, which would be of much value to the people of Ireland and beyond.

Walking around my new city

College Green.
